Casa de las Amigas

Casa de las Amigas opened its doors back in 1967, marking the establishment of the first recovery home in Pasadena specifically catering to women struggling with alcohol and chemical dependency. Each year Casa’s “House of Friends” witnesses the transformation of hundreds of women, who, like butterflies, change and grow as they develop a renewed sense of hope through recovery and embark on their own personal journey toward a new life of serenity and peace. Every woman in search of a productive and sober life will have the opportunity to achieve it. Through an integrated healing program for body and mind that takes place in a homelike environment, Casa de las Amigas helps women with alcohol or drug addiction recover by providing them with the tools necessary to lead productive, responsible and sober lives. Casa de las Amigas offers women hope by guiding them through a unique process of recovery. Women whose lives have become unmanageable due to their alcoholism and/or chemical dependencies are given a choice and a chance to change. We believe that a productive, responsible, and sober life is founded upon the necessary establishment of basic self-esteem and love combined with knowledge and understanding of the disease of addiction with support from12-step programs.

The need for Project Scientist was based off a vast amount of research that shows girls with a high skill, aptitude, and talent for STEM subjects are not currently served or identified at a young age. Project Scientist was created to change the world’s view of “who” a scientist is and “what” a scientist does. Every second of a girl's time with Project Scientist is intentional and based off of the latest research of what drives and sustains girl's interest in STEM. We annually partner with Harvard and the University of North Carolina Charlotte to research our model and validate our impact.

The YWCA Pasadena-Foothill Valley is dedicated to empowering women and girls and eliminating racism. Established in 1905 as an advocate for young women beginning to enter the workforce, the YWCA Pasadena-Foothill Valley has since been a pioneering voice in its fight for racial, economic, and gender equality. From its pre-1920 racial integration plan to the early 1970s founding of the nation's first Big Sister program and the area's first rape hotline, the YWCA Pasadena-Foothill Valley has long been on the cutting edge of responding to the needs of women and continuing the mission of the YWCA USA established over 150 years ago. The YWCA Pasadena-Foothill Valley serves 850 residents annually in the California communities of Pasadena, Alhambra, Altadena, Arcadia, LaCanada-Flintridge, Monrovia, San Marino, Sierra Madre and South Pasadena.
